3 Movies about Indochina you must watch

Hello Saigoneers,

If you are completely in love with Saigon (like me) and want to watch movies related or which have taken place in Indochina, I advice you to watch the following ones:

INDOCHINA

A 1992 movie taking place in 1930, at the time when French colonial rule in Indochina is ending. A rich French woman living in Saigon, owner of one of the biggest rubber field, raised a Vietnamese princess as if she was her own daughter. She, and her daughter both fall in love with a young French navy officer, which will change both their lives significantly. It is the beginning of the communists’ revolution.

THE SEA WALL

From Marguerite Duras’ novel taking place in Indochina (Cambodia). A French mother indebted with her concession she has bought years ago, gets more crumbled when her adult children strike out for independence. Feeling abandoned she contemplates taking drastic action.

THE LOVER

From Marguerite Duras’ novel taking place in Saigon. A French teenage girl was 15 years old when she first met “the Chinese”, rich 27 years old man, they felt in love at first sight on the boat back to Saigon. Both of them knew that knowledge of their affair brings drastic consequences to each other.
